Having a high-quality mesh is one of the vital elements of attaining accurate simulation results. However, the preparation of a high-quality mesh can be time-consuming. In order to help its users facilitate a faster and easier mesh generation, Moldex3D officially released a new pre-processing module mode- Designer BLM (Boundary Layer Mesh). It has since proved to be a powerful feature for Moldex3D users to generate high quality meshes.
Additionally, in the latest R13.0 release, Moldex3D has expanded the functionalities of Designer BLM mode and multiple enhancements have been made to further strengthen its usability. In this article, the important enhancements in Designer BLM are highlighted and they are listed as below:
- Efficient Solid Meshing for Complex Runners and Cooling Channels
The new release unleashes the limitation that users cannot directly import the geometry of runner or cooling system from CAD. Moldex3D Designer BLM mode now supports a complete meshing for a complex runner or cooling channel design without meshing modifications/simplifications. This improvement not only reduces the time for mesh preparation but also offers high accuracy for flow prediction of both melt and coolant.

- Rapid Mesh Preparation with Fix Wizard
After an automatic BLM mesh is generated, Designer BLM will alert its users if there are any mesh defects. Users can then utilize a useful tool, Fix Wizard to correct/fix mesh defects such as free edges, t-connect edges, overlap elements, etc. This smart Fix Wizard offers a quick fix on mesh defects and ensures mesh quality for accurate simulation results.

- Support Various Molding Processes
Moldex3D has expanded the functionalities of Designer BLM mode to support diverse molding processes, including multiple component molding (MCM), 3D cooling channel, compression molding, powder injection molding (PIM), MuCell®, gas-assisted injection molding, water-assisted injection molding, co-injection molding, and bi-injection molding.
- Enhancement on Auto Refine Performance
In the latest release R13.0 version, the auto-refine kernel capability has been further enhanced to improve mesh quality and workflow efficiency. Thus, the success rate of generating BLM meshing has been improved.
