We know what the end product needs to look like, but we need to build a mold that is able to make that part. Not only do we need to make the part though; we need a part that has good dimensional stability, aesthetic appearance, and can be made at a low cost. Very commonly, there is a disconnect between product designers and mold designers, leading to a lot of headbutting when it comes to the moldability of a product. This session tackles the topic of gate selection, one of the first contention points that can be run by both parties to get an idea of how the gate location and number across the part can influence the moldability of the part.
