International Conference on Polymers and Moulds Innovations – PMI2014

  • Date:Sep 10, 2014 - Sep 12, 2014
  • Location: University of Minho, Guimarães, Portugal

Conference History

Since 2005 the International Conference on Polymers and Moulds Innovations (PMI 2014) has been organized biannually in cooperation between the Institute for Polymers and Composites at the University of Minho, in Portugal, and the Centre for Polymer and Material Technologies at the University of Ghent, in Belgium.

This year’s event

This 6th edition of PMI follows the trend of the previous editions on establishing a forum for academics and specialists from the industry worldwide exchanging the more recent developments in the multidisciplinary area of plastics product and tool development. Specific areas of interest include: additive manufacturing, polymer processing, rapid tooling, product and tool development, materials for products and tools, and sustainable use of recycled polymers.

Moldex3D participation

Following the steady evolution of previous editions it is expected that participants from more than 20 countries gather at the University of Minho in Guimarães. Among those will be Moldex3D Technical Research Engineers with their papers on Numerical Simulation and Experimental Study on Physical Mechanism in Multiple Component Moulding and Numerical Prediction of Fiber Orientation, Fiber Length, and Fiber Concentration in Injection Molding of Fiber-Reinforced Thermoplastics. Their attendance at the conference will offer an excellent opportunity to disseminate the results of projects and research; to stimulate concepts or ideas; and to launch synergistic research collaborations for the future.

Venue

In 2014, for the first time, PMI 2014 will be hosted by the University of Minho at the historical town of Guimarães, in the North of Portugal, from 10 to 12 of September 2014. Guimarães was the first capital of Portugal in the 12th century as is an exceptionally well-preserved and authentic example of the evolution of a medieval settlement into a modern town, as recognized by the World Heritage Convention of UNESCO. During 2012 Guimarães hosted a major gathering of creators and creations: from music and architecture to theatre and street art, as the 2012 European Capital of Culture. In 2013 the town was named European City of Sport.
