The use of Composites and Reinforced Plastics is dramatically increasing today and the requirements for designing high performance, lightweight and cost-effective components and systems are becoming tighter than ever in all industries today.

Numerical simulations used early in the design stage help engineers to come up with the optimum design of a part in a reasonable timeframe. However, traditional Finite Elements tools are limited when it comes to predicting the behaviour of Structures made from Composite Materials. These methods use isotropic assumptions to approximate the performance of a part while the latter is fully process-dependent and can vary throughout a part due to fibres’ orientations.

During this webinar, Moldex3D and Digimat offer breakthroughs technologies that empower the analyst to understand deeply the performance of his products based on a detailed simulation of injection or compression processes and the impact this will have on the distribution of the fibres within the part and therefore on its final performance.

Furthermore, the complete workflow will be demonstrated. It start from process simulation using State of the Arts techniques within Moldex3D and prediction of fibres orientation tensor. Illustrative examples will be used. Next, the fibres orientations are transferred to Digimat to predict the behaviour of the Reinforced Material. The latter is nonlinear, fully anisotropic, depending on the fibres orientation, their aspect ratio and volume fraction. It can be thermal and strain rate dependent. And finally the performance of the part will be presented. Stiffness, as well as failure and fatigue will be considered and multiple customer cases will be presented.
