Design of Experiments (DOE) is a systematic approach for testing multiple variables through a structured series of experiments. In practical terms, this might involve conducting a molding trial where an existing mold is subjected to various changes in process inputs to enhance part quality or improve cycle times. However, what do we do when the mold is still in development and not yet in production?
With the use of simulation, the injection molding process can be replicated, allowing for a broader range of variables to be tested, including part geometry, gate location, cooling design, material choices, and, of course, process parameters. This will explore how Moldex3D can facilitate a more automated approach to optimization.
What Attendees Will Learn?
- What various inputs can be incorporated into the DOE for optimization?
- How to interpret the outputs from the DOE to make informed decisions in the actual production process?
April has over 20 years of injection molding experience in the automotive industry. She gained extensive knowledge of process development, scientific injection molding and Moldex3D simulation software.
April’s favorite part of being an applications engineer is the consulting, benchmarking, and collaboration with variety of plastic industries, as well as the exponential camaraderie with her team. Virtual modeling of the molding process is an exciting way to empower manufacturers to improve manufacturability and sustainability by fine-tuning designs, selecting recycled materials wisely, and boosting production efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
