Injection-molded products contain discontinuous fibers and their orientation is not uniform throughout the product. Therefore, it is important to consider the molding history when analyzing material behavior.
This webinar introduces an analysis workflow that can be used to map the distribution of fiber orientations based on the molding history and the corresponding material constants.
Even though the microstructure of injection molded parts varies from region to region, it is not possible to carry out material tests for every region. We use a homogenization approach to evaluate the equivalent material constants for the microstructure of a typical fiber orientation pattern, independent of the molding analysis. Moldex3D® can extract the microstructure of injection molded parts and identify their fiber orientation. Multiscale.Sim™, developed by CYBERNET SYSTEMS CO., LTD. has the capability to perform homogenization and map the material constants onto the fiber distribution obtained from Moldex3D resin flow analysis. The advantage of this method is that it can be used to map any constitutive law. This includes not only problems related to elasticity, but also any material non-linearities.
