Material Characterization

CoreTech helps global users build their proprietary material database. According to common production needs, each company typically requires less than 10~15 grades of materials. Thus, it's generally very cost-effective to build a proprietary database for internal utilization. Furthermore, it's always highly recommended to have correct and accurate material data for reliable CAE analyses.

CoreTech provides the following characterization services for both thermoplastic and thermoset.

Thermoplastic

Shear Viscosity (A1, A2)
The shear viscosity is measured by capillary viscometer (Model: Gottefert 2002) at three different processing temperatures and a reasonable range of shear rates. Shear viscosity is crucial is calculating sprue pressure, melt front advancement, clamping force...etc. Shear viscosity is necessary for all Moldex3D analyses. Shear viscosity measurement with Bagley correction is available upon request.

PVT (B1)
The PVT data is measured by a dedicated instrument (Model: SWO PVT 100) at various temperatures and pressures. PVT data is necessary in calculating volumetric shrinkage of the material. PVT is necessary for Pack and Warp analyses, and is good to have for Flow and Cool analyses.

Thermal Conductivity (B2)
The thermal conductivity is measured by a using a special device of SWO PVT 100 at various temperatures and pressures. Thermal conductivity is important in calculating all the heat transfer related behaviors of thermoplastic, including cooling time, temperature distribution...etc. Thermal conductivity is necessary for all Moldex3D analyses.

Heat Capacity (B3)
The heat capacity is measured by using a standard Differential Scanning Calorimeter, DSC (Model: TA DSC 2910). Heat capacity is as important as thermal conductivity in all the heat transfer related calculations. Heat capacity is necessary for all Moldex3D analyses.

Thermoset
Chemorheology (C1)
The chemorheology is a study of the reactive viscosity at various time, temperature and shear rates. CoreTech has developed a proprietary characterization technique by using a parallel-plate rheometer (Model: Par Physica MC 100). Chemorheology is crucial is calculating sprue pressure, melt front advancement, clamping force...etc. Chemorheology is necessary for all Moldex3D-RIM analyses. Chemorheology of ultra low viscosity two-liquid type thermoset is available upon special request.

Curing Kinetics (C2)
The curing kinetics is a study of the curing rate at various time and temperature. CoreTech has developed a proprietary characterization technique by using a parallel-plate rheometer. Chemorheology is crucial is calculating sprue pressure, melt front advancement, clamping force¡Ketc. Curing kinetics is necessary for all Moldex3D-RIM analyses.

Characterization Report
All the raw data, material model constants and Moldex3D material data file will be provided with the final report.
