Webinar: 3D Printing Conformal Mold Cooling Lines with Sodick

  • Date:Nov 01, 2017
  • Location: 2:30 PM EST

Conformal cooling, or shape-matching water lines, greatly improve injection mold performance by eliminating hot spots and decreasing cooling time, which can often account for the majority of a mold’s total cycle. While conformal cooling lines are virtually impossible to make through traditional methods, these complex water lines can easily be manufactured on a metal 3D printer. While the task of 3D printing may sound difficult at first, this programming walkthrough will demonstrate how today’s printers are user-friendly, running on CAM software not unlike traditional machining software. By the end of this webinar, viewers should feel confident that 3D printed molds are not too difficult to produce themselves, and should have a basic understanding of how to program 3D parts.

What Attendees Will Learn:

  • Benefits of conformal (3D) water lines in molds
  • Basic importing and orienting parts within CAM software
  • Selecting laser settings for 3D printing molds
  • Partitioning sections of a mold for finish machining
  • Creating tool paths for finishing molds
  • Limitations and best practices for 3D printing molds
